During his tenure Steve DiTolla was a key leader in ensuring Titan Baseball remained nationally competitive, and he was serving as Acting AD when he hired Augie Garrido "back" from the University of Illinois (for his 2nd stint as head coach at Cal State Fullerton). Steve completed his career by overseeing the completion of the $16.4 million baseball & softball complex and the Titans ESPN+ broadcast center (located on the 2nd floor of Titan Gym).

Steve spearheaded the searches for Titan Baseball coaches Larry Cochell, Augie Garrido, George Horton, Dave Serrano and Rick Vanderhook, and was instrumental in establishing the Titan Athletics Hall of Fame.

Jim Donovan's quote in the OC Register article when Steve retired in 2020 says it best, "Cal State Fullerton Athletics would not be what it is today without Steve DiTolla.  Steve has been an invaluable piece of this athletic department during his time here. He has helped lead this department through the best and most successful stretch it has ever had, and I cannot thank him enough for his work."

Steve officially retired in 2020, and continued to work as a part-time retired annuitant for six months seeing through the completion of two construction projects, and finished that part-time stint by donating $50,000 to establish an endowment in his and his wife's name to benefit the Titan baseball program in perpetuity.
