Van Wyk is undoubtedly one of the best Titans in Cal State Fullerton softball history, as she was named the Broderick Award winner as the nation's top softball player in her only season (1982) at Cal State Fullerton after Texas Women's University dropped its program. While with the Titans, she set an NCAA record with 35 consecutive wins during her 35-1 season. She pitched 23 shutouts and 31 complete games, while striking out 270 batters in 278 innings.

Van Wyk played under fellow Titan legend Judi Garman and helped lead Fullerton to its first trip to the College World Series appearance. Van Wyk's greatness has now carried on into the coaching realm, where she enters her 21st season as the head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs softball program.
