Max is certainly one of the most known and respected names in sports medicine. Max served as the National Athletics Trainers Association (NATA) first female president in 2000 before being inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2007.

She was honored by NATA as the recipient of the 2019 Eve Becker-Doyle Leadership Award. The Eve Becker-Doyle Leadership Award is the highest honor given to a NATA member specifically for outstanding leadership and volunteerism within the NATA.

Since 1979 Max worked at Cal State Fullerton, where she was the driving force behind the development of an athletic training education program that has received national acclaim.
