Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer picked up an early goal by junior Atlanta Primus but conceded a goal in the 70th minute and the conference-opening match against Long Beach State ended in a draw.
Primus scored at the 2:54 mark to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Haley Brown made the run up the right side of the 18-yard box and then centered the ball to Primus who calmly slotted the ball into the left side netting for her third goal of the season.
The 49ers equalized at the 70:45 mark when Dana Fujikuni made a long run with the ball and a had shot from well beyond the 18-yard box that kissed off the post and snuck in behind goalkeeper Tianna Sanders.
In the 60th minute, Maddie Bennett carried the ball over half the field, running past Long Beach defenders to reach the 18-yard box and she fired a shot that was deflected into the crossbar and out. On the ensuing corner kick in the 61st minute, the ball fell to senior Nano Oronoz in the box and she struck the ball cleanly from point-blank range and somehow the LBSU goalkeeper got a hand up to deflect the shot away for another corner kick. After the goal, those were the best opportunities of the match for the Titans.
However, Sanders responded well and made some crucial saves in the remaining 20 minutes of regulation and the 20 minutes of extra time. She finished the night with five total saves including two in the opening extra time period. The 49ers out-shot the Titans 16-13. LBSU also won 11 corner kicks to just three for CSF.
Fullerton returns to Titan Stadium on Sunday to host undefeated UC Riverside at 5 p.m.
