FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team responded from last week's road trip with a big 6-1 win over UNLV at home on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.
The Titans improved to 2-2-2 for the season. The six goals scored were the most goals scored since the 2015 season when they scored six against the University of San Diego. It was also just the fifth time this century they have scored six or more goals in a game.
The Titans had six unique goal scorers as
Cassie Villanueva,
Sasha Amezcua,
Kaylin Raibon,
Mia LaRosa,
Camryn Cruz, and
Shannon Nettekoven all found the back of the net. The Titans outshot UNLV 15-to-11 for the game with a 9-to-4 shot on goal advantage.
Allison Craycroft picked up her second career with after making three saves in 76 minutes.
Grace Ae made her Titans debut over the final 14 minutes.
The Titans took the lead early in the 7th minute of the game off a penalty kick.
Camryn Cruz was brought down in the box.
Cassie Villanueva stepped up and drilled the penalty against her former side for her third goal of the season.
The Titans doubled the lead in the 23rd minute off a counter-attack.
Cassie Villanueva got the ball in UNLV's side and dribbled to the Titans side and played a through ball up to
Sasha Amezcua. Amezcua hit a perfect shot into the upper right 90 to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.
The Titans took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the 58th minute, the Titans made it 3-0 after a corner kick, their first of three corner kick goals of the night.
Kaylin Raibon bended in a perfect ball into the back of the net for the Olimpico goal to make it 3-0.
The Titans made it 4-0 in the 61st minute after a perfect team goal.
Jaidyn Williams won the ball back outside the UNLV box and passed it back to
Kaylin Raibon. Raibon lofted a ball over to
Kassandra Rios who dribbled it to the endline and threaded a perfect pass to
Mia LaRosa who one timed her shot into the keeper's near post to make it 4-0.
UNLV got a goal back in the 66th minute as former Titan Kaitlin Taylor scored for the Rebels to make it 4-1.
The Titans added a fifth goal in the 76th minute off a corner kick.
Camryn Cruz headed the ball into the net on a ball from
Cayla Oliveira to make it 5-1.
The Titans added their sixth and final goal in the 83rd minute off another corner kick.
Isabella Contreras's ball pinged off two UNLV defenders to
Shannon Nettekoven who threated a ball past the keeper for her first career goal as a Titan to make it 6-1.
The Titans will host the University of Portland on Sunday, September 6th. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
