Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team defeated the University of Portland 1-0 at home on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.

The Titans improved to 3-2-2 for the season and picked up their second straight win. 

Cassie Villanueva scored her team leading fourth goal of the season.  She is currently tied for second in the conference with four goals and 11 points.

The Titans defense earned their second shutout of the season and first since the opening game of the season against San Diego.  The Titans backline of Isabella Contreras, Skye Johnson, Kaylin Raibon, and Kassandra Rios each played a full 90 to help give Allison Craycroft the second clean sheet of her career.

The first half was a pretty even affair with Portland attacking more at the beginning of the half.  The Titans absorbed the pressure well and came into their own as the first half went on.  The Titans had a golden opportunity to take an early first half lead after earning a penalty kick.  Jaidyn Williams was grabbed back inside the box and the Titans were awarded a penalty after a VAR challenge.  However, the freshman's shot was saved by the Portland keeper to keep the game 0-0 heading into halftime.

Both sides continued to trade attacks in the second half before the Titans finally found a breakthrough in the 80th minute on their 11th corner kick of the game.  Kaylin Raibon sent a cross into Cassie Villanueva who headed it off a Pilots defender into the net for her second game winning goal of the season. 

The Pilots had the final five shots of the game over the final 10 minutes and almost equalized after a breakaway counter from Journey Middleborn. Allison Craycroft was there to make the initial save at the top of the box and prevented a final Portland scoring opportunity to secure the win.

The Titans home stand continues when they welcome in Washington State next Sunday for their final non-conference game of the season.  Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. while the Titans will honor their lone senior, Camryn Cruz in a pregame ceremony.  There will be post-game autograph session after the game as well.
