SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton bounced back in a big way Sunday afternoon to take game three of the series, 5-1, against San Diego at Fowler Park.
The Titans fell behind in the first inning but quickly turned the game around and didn't look back. Jason Brandow and Austin Schell hit back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead that the Titans would not relinquish. It's the first time since April 7, 2019 against Cal Poly the Titans hit back-to-back homeruns.
Schell and Brandow were a force in the middle of the lineup Sunday, hitting a combined 5-for-9 with four runs and two RBI.
Brandow is having a great start to the season, hitting .450 with a .750 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage. Brandow leads the team with five RBI and three doubles.
Kyle Luckham started the game on the mound for the Titans and was untouchable after the first inning. The righty went 7.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned while striking out six batters on his way to earning his first win of the season.
Fullerton added three runs in the top of the third inning on a bases-loaded double to right field by Omar Veloz to extend the lead. The first-year transfer from Mt. San Antonio College is 5-for-9 this season with four RBI.
Landon Anderson and Christian Rodriguez finished off the eighth inning for the Titans prior to Ryan Hare coming in and closing down the final frame to secure the win.
The Titans now prepare for a midweek road contest against No. 8 UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. PT.
