Baseball Comes Up Short at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton fell short in Tuesday night's midweek game at San Diego State, losing by a final score of 5-3 at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the loss the Titans drop to 21-22 on the year.

The Titans struck first, scoring one run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Paul Contreras that brought home Damian Casas from second base. ]

Fullerton took an early lead in the second, however, it missed an opportunity to take a commanding lead after leaving the bases loaded in the first and the second inning. The Titans left a total of 11 runners on base Tuesday night.

Nick Santivanez had another strong start for the Titans, pitching three no-hit innings while walking one batter and striking out two.

The Titans extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Contreras that scored Cam Burdick.

San Diego State got on the board in the home half of the fourth, scoring two runs to tie the game at 2-2.

Fullerton had a response of its own in the top of the fifth to retake the lead, 3-2. Hunter Meyer led-off the inning with a single before an error on a sacrifice bunt put him at third. San Diego State's pitcher then balked to allow Meyer to score.

The Aztecs answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 advantage. San Diego State added an insurance run in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-3.

After three consecutive weekends on the road, the Titans return home to Goodwin Field for a three-game series against UC Davis beginning Friday night.
