Titans Host Three Matches this Week

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton finished last week with a record of 1-1, defeating George Washington, 5-2, before falling to Big West Conference foe, UC Davis, 6-1.

This week, the Titans host three additional matches at the Titan Tennis Courts starting with Colorado State on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Fullerton will play back-to-back matches as Wyoming visits at 2 p.m. on Thursday, before the Titans finish the week hosting Big West opponent Pacific at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Cal State Fullerton is in the midst of a seven-match homestand, hosting three matches this week at the Titan Tennis Courts.

Last week, the Titans finished the week with a win against George Washington and a loss to UC Davis. The Titans enter the week with a record of 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the Big West.

Currently freshman Emilia Borkowski leads the Titans with a 10-6 dual match record, followed by redshirt sophomore Megan Sandford (8-5), sophomore Kalika Slevcove (8-7) and junior Morgan McIntosh (8-7).

With eight wins overall, Fullerton would need just one more win to record the team's highest win total since the 2004 Titans finished the year with a mark of 12-10.

Last Time Out
UC Davis won five singles matches and the clinched the doubles point in a 6-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton at the Titan Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Fullerton falls to 8-9 overall and to 2-4 in Big West Conference matches, while the Aggies improve to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.

UC Davis started singles play with a 1-0 lead after winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively, in the doubles lineup.

In singles play, Fullerton junior Morgan McIntosh was the only Titan to record a victory, defeating Layla Sanders, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 in the lineup. With the win, McIntosh improves to 8-7 in dual match play and 2-3 in the Big West.

McIntosh also picked up a win in doubles action partnering with Kalika Slevcove to defeat Nicole Koehly and Sanders, 8-4, at No. 2 in the lineup. The team of McIntosh and Slevcove improves to 8-4 in 2013.

Since UC Davis joined the conference in 2008, the Titans are winless against the Aggies.

Opponents
Colorado State (2-7, 0-1 Mountain West) travels to Cal State Fullerton after a 6-1 win over Rhode Island on March 10. The Titans and Rams have played one like opponent in 2013, with Colorado State defeating New Mexico State, 4-3, in Las Cruces, N.M., on March 1. The Titans hosted the Aggies on Feb. 22, and prevailed 6-1.

No. 70 Wyoming (6-5, 1-0 Mountain West) visits Fullerton fresh off a 6-1 victory over Air Force last Saturday. While in Southern California, the Cowgirls will also play Long Beach State (Friday) and UC Irvine (Sunday). The Cowgirls hold a 3-0 all-time series lead over the Titans with the last meeting a 7-0 Wyoming win on March 21, 2010.

Pacific (6-7, 1-1 Big West) begins the week on a two-match losing streak recently falling to Cal State Northridge, 4-3 (March 10) and Nevada, 5-2 (March 16). Before traveling to Fullerton, the Tigers will travel to Fresno State (Thursday) and UC Irvine (Saturday). The Titans and Tigers have played five like opponents in 2013; New Mexico State, San Jose State, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge and Nevada with both Pacific and Fullerton holding 2-3 records, respectively, against the five like opponents. The Titans defeated Cal State Northridge, 4-3, and New Mexico State, 6-1, while The Tigers defeated New Mexico State, 5-2, and Cal Poly , 4-3.
