Women's Tennis Signs Five For Upcoming Season

FULLERTON, Calif. - Head Coach Ellie Johnson of the Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team announced the signings of five new student athletes for the upcoming 2026-28 season. The Titans have added Johanna Hiesmair (Long Beach State), Maria Ramos (Utah State), Martina Puvill Fuertes (Washington State), and Stina Larsson (Azusa Pacific) from the transfer portal and incoming freshman Leanna Roman.

Johanna comes to the Titans after spending one and a half seasons at Long Beach State.  She went 2-3 overall in singles her freshman year.  She went 14-9 overall with a 12-8 record in doubles in dual matches.  She earned an All-Big West Honorable Mention nod in doubles She went 4-3 with Thea Jagare (1-0 in the No. 1 spot) and  3-3 in the No. 2 spot.  She went 10-6 with Cecilia Costa.  She went 8-5 in the No. 1 spot in doubles. She went 5-8 overall and 1-1 in duals in singles her sophomore year.  She went 5-4 overall in doubles and 2-1 in dual matches. She went 2-2 with Daria Malaescu at the No. 2 spot.  She went 0-1 with Paulina Franco Martinessi, 1-1 with Pamela Badillo, and 2-0 with Diana De Simone.

"Johanna brings Big West experience and a team-first mentality that fits exactly what we look for in a Titan. She is a hard worker who consistently puts in extra effort, and her doubles game will be an immediate asset to our program. We are excited to have her." said Johnson.

Maria Ramos

Maria comes to the Titans after spending the past two seasons in Logan, Utah competing for Utah State.  Last season Ramos primarily played in the No. 3 (4-1) and No. 4 spot (4-6) in singles while also picking up a win at the No. 2 spot and two wins at the No. 5 spot.  In doubles, Ramos posted a 14-4 record while competing at the No. 3 spot with a few different partners.  In her freshman year, Ramos went 5-10 in singles while competing in the 3rd-6th spot.  She went 11-8 in doubles her freshman with most of them coming in the No. 3 spot.  Before joining the collegiate ranks, Ramos was the No. 1 U-18 player in Guatemala City and reached a career high intercollegiate ranking of 546.

"Maria is a relentless competitor with a positive, team-first attitude that will fit right into our culture. She works hard, battles through every point, and is excited to be surrounded by players who will push her to grow. We are thrilled to have her joining us." said Johnson.

Martina Puvill Fuertes
Barcelona, Spain | Washington State


Martina comes to the Titans after spending the past two seasons in Pullman, Washington competing for Washington State.  Last season, Puvill Fuertes primarily played in the No. 3 spot (6-5) and No. 4 spot (4-2) in singles. She also went 3-6 in doubles while competing in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. In her freshman season for the Cougars, she went 7-9 in singles matches during the dual season at the No. 5 spot and went 4-2 in doubles with her partner Chisato Kanemaki and 3-4 in doubles with her partner Hania Abouelsaad.

"Martina is a strong competitor who brings a great work ethic and a genuine love for the game. She has wonderful things said about her character by people we trust, and we believe she will be a positive addition to our program both on and off the court. We are excited to have her as a Titan." said Johnson.

Stina Larsson
Nora, Sweden | Azusa Pacific University


Stina comes to the Titans after spending the past two seasons nearby competing for the NCAA Division II side Azusa Pacific University.  Over the past two seasons, Stina has a 42-7 overall record in singles.  She played the No. 1 spot for the Cougars this season while playing in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot for APU her freshman year.  She went 11-11 in doubles this past year while competing in the No. 1 spot with her primary partner Karola Suviste.Her freshman year, she went 17-6 in doubles while playing in both the No. 1 and No. 2 spot. She was named to the All-PacWest First team in singles and doubles her sophomore year.  Larsson was named the 2025 PacWest Freshman of the Year and named to the First-Team All PacWest in singles and doubles.  She was named the 2026 PacWest Conference Tournament most outstanding player after leading the Cougars to the 2026 PacWest Conference Title.  She led the Cougars to the opening round of the NCAA DII Championship her sophomore year.  Her freshman year, Larsson helped lead the Cougars to the NCAA DII Women's National Championship quarterfinals. Larsson finished the season ranked as the No. 45 player in NCAA Division II singles her sophomore year.

 "Stina is a driven and athletic player who brings a respectful, positive attitude to everything she does. Her coach speaks very highly of her character and her ability to thrive at the next level. We are excited to see what she will bring to our team." said Johnson.

Leanna Roman
Irvine, Calif. | Portola HS


Leanna comes to the Titans after a standout career at Portola HS.  She led Portola to being the Pacific Coast Team League Champions all four seasons she was there.  The Bulldogs were the two-time CIF Southern Section Open Division Runner-Ups her junior and senior year.  She was a Point Loma Invitational Tournament Finalist her sophomore and junior year and came in third place her senior year. She was the Pacific Coast League Champion in doubles all four years and was a CIF Individual Doubles Quarterfinalist all four years.   She was the team captain at Portola her sophomore through senior year. She was the Team MVP her senior year and won the girl's tennis coaches award her freshman year.  She was named All-County first team in doubles her freshman through senior year.

"Leanna is a local player who embodies exactly the kind of character we look for in a Titan. She is a hard worker with a positive energy that will be a great addition to our team culture. We are excited to welcome her home and watch her grow in our program." said Johnson.

The Titans graduated three players from last years team and had four returners from last year.  The Titans went 14-8 overall last season with a 6-3 record in conference play.  They finished the regular season as the No. 3 in the Big West Tournament where they fell in the Quarterfinals.
