FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team defeated the University of Hawai'i 6-1 on Friday morning to close out the regular season.
The game which was originally scheduled for February 7th in Hawaii was moved to Friday because of inclement weather in Hawaii at the time.Â
The Titans took a 1-0 lead early in the match after winning the doubles point. The Rainbow Wahine won No. 2 doubles handily 6-1 before the Titans equalized things on Court 3 in a 6-4 win by
Madison Schwarz and
Milena Gevorgyan. The No.1 pairing of
Seha Yu and
Emilie Lugon-Moulin took care of business on Court 1 to take the doubles point after winning 6-4.Â
The Titans had a strong start in singles as four of the six courts won their first sets. Â Hawai'i got their only point of the match on Court 3 as
Seha Yu was forced to retire due to injury. Â However, the Titans quickly regained a 3-1 lead over the 'Bows. Â
Dana Kunza won in straight sets on Court 6 6-3,6-4. Â
Milena Gevorgyan won a three set match after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to give the Titans their third point of the match. Â
Amelia Zylberman sealed the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win on Court 4 to give the Titans four points.
After the Titans won, both matches on Court 1 and Court 2 went to tiebreaks on set two where the 'Bows prevailed in both. Â With the match already decided, Courts 1 and 2 went to a 10-point tiebreak. Â
Martina Markov was able to defeat her opponent 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (13-11) on Court 1. Â
Emilie Lugon-Moulin got the sixth point for the Titans as she won her match 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (11-9).
The Titans will take on the No. 10 seed UC Riverside on Wednesday, April 22nd at noon at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
