Titans Surrender Late Lead to Drop Game Two at No. 6 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cal State Fullerton gave away a late lead, losing to No. 6 Oregon State 6-1 in game two of the series Saturday afternoon. The Titans drop to 19-18 on the year with the loss. 

Fullerton held a 1-0 lead midway through the eighth inning when Oregon State's offense rallied to score six runs in the bottom of the eighth. 

The Titans took the 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Eli Lopez that scored Cameron Kim from second base. Kim and Thomas strung together back-to-back one-out singles before Lopez came through with two outs. 

Fullerton had its chances to extend the lead but was never able to get the key hit, leaving a total of seven runners on base. 

Freshman Bobby Mahoney pitched a great game, giving up just three hits in five innings while holding the No. 6 team in the country scoreless. Brock Mayer had a strong two innings in relief, allowing one hit while striking out three batters. 

The series is now split 1-1 and comes down to game three Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
