FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton dropped the series opener to CSUN Friday night by a final score of 5-3 at Goodwin Field. With the loss the Titans drop to 10-11 on the year and 5-2 in Big West play.Â
The Titans fell behind early, giving up one run in the top of the first inning. Mikiah Negrete did a good job limiting the damage after facing runners on first and second with one out.Â
CSUN added to its lead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run to go up 3-0.Â
Negrete battled but ultimately drew the loss to drop to 3-2 on the year after giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.Â
Fullerton chipped away at the deficit, scoring one run in the fifth and sixth inning to make it a 3-2 game.Â
In the fifth inning it was a Ty Thomas RBI single to score Max Ortega from third to get the Titans on the board.Â
The Titans scored one run in the sixth inning on a double from Nick Miller to bring home Paul Contreras from first base. Contreras went 3-for-4 on the night and now boasts a team-best .352 batting average.Â
After cutting the deficit to just one run, CSUN responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 5-2.Â
Cameron Kim hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.Â
The Titans look to even the series with CSUN in game two Saturday evening at Goodwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.Â
