FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton dropped the weekend series to CSUN after losing game two by a final score 6-2 Saturday night at Goodwin Field. The Titans drop to 10-12 on the year and 5-3 in Big West play.Â
CSUN struck in the first inning once again, this time following a throwing error by the Titans infield that would have ended the inning.Â
The Matadors extended their lead to 4-0 after scoring three runs in the second inning on three solo home runs.Â
Fullerton scored two runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. With two outs and a runner on first, Paul Contreras tripled to right center field to get the Titans on the board.Â
Nick Miller then hit an infield single to bring home Contreras and make it a 4-2 game.Â
The Titans had their chances to get back in the game but ended up leaving eight runners on base and were shutout the remainder of the game.Â
CSUN scored one run in the seventh and one in the eighth, both on solo home runs, to take a 6-2 lead.Â
The heart of the order in Cameron Kim (2-for-4), Contreras (3-for-4) and Miller (2-for-4) had all seven hits for the Titans. Contreras is now hitting a team-high .373 on the year while Miller and Kim are hitting .310 and .286, respectively. Â
Bobby Mahoney pitched another great game in relief, giving the Titans a chance to get back in the game after falling behind 4-0. Mahoney allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings pitched while walking one and striking out a career-high six batters.Â
The Titans look to stave off a series sweep in game three Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
