LAS VEGAS – Cal State Fullerton fell to UNLV by a final score of 4-3 Tuesday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the loss the Titans drop to 10-10 on the year.Â
The Titans fell behind early as UNLV took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run. The Rebels added one run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.Â
Fullerton had a slow start to the game offensively until breaking through with two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2.Â
Max Ortega led-off the seventh inning with a single before advancing to second on a throwing error by UNLV. With one-out, Hunter Meyer singled up the middle to bring home Ortega from third base.Â
With runners on first and second after an Esteban Olazaba walk, Cameron Kim hit an RBI single to center field to score Meyer and tie the game at 2-2.Â
The Titans, however, were unable to get a shut down inning they needed in the bottom of the seventh. UNLV responded with two runs to retake a two-run lead, 4-2.Â
Paul Contreras gave the Titans life in the eighth inning with a leadoff solo home run over the batters eye in center field. Contreras went 3-for-4 Tuesday night to bump his season batting average up to a team-high .328 while also leading the team with four home runs.Â
Fullerton had another opportunity in the eighth inning following an Ortega single and a chance in the ninth after an Olazaba leadoff walk but couldn't push the tying run across. The Titans left a total of nine runners on base in the 4-3 loss.Â
The Titans return home to Goodwin Field this weekend for a three-game Big West series against CSUN beginning Friday night.
