Luke Hitchcock Sets School Record in the 800m at Challenge Cup

IRVINE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton track and field team traveled down the road to compete in the annual Challenge Cup hosted by UC Irvine Saturday. After a strong performance at the Ben Brown Invite, the Titans men and women both finished the meet in the third place. 

The Fullerton women's team scored 151 points which fell behind UC Irvine's 163 points and Long Beach State's 165.50 points.

The men were able to score 135 points behind UC Santa Barbara's 161.50 and Long Beach State's 202 points. 

The bright spot for the Titans took place late in the meet in the men's 800m as Luke Hitchcock had a strong late kick to once again solidify his name atop the 800m performers in the Fullerton record books with a 1:49.36. Hitchcock's time was only second to UCI's Angel Cordero's 1:48.88 in the event.

The women had several key performances that saw a shift of new names breaking into the Fullerton top 10 record books.

Brooklyn Davis ran 11.75 to finish second in the 100m dash which was complimented by her taking the sixth spot all-time in the women's 100m for Cal State Fullerton.

In the high jump, Carissa Martinez finished fourth in the event with a mark of 1.66m which was her best of the season and good enough to reach the sixth spot all-time at Fullerton.

Kyliegh Wilkerson also moved into the all-time record books in the sixth spot with a throw of 44.23 in the discus.

Jocelyn Alexander had a busy meet as she reached the eighth all-time for Fullerton in the shot put with a mark of 13.24. She also placed herself at eight in the discus with a mark of 43.14m.

The women's 4x100m relay team that consisted of Charlton, Dematte, Fairclothand Davis finished their race in first place with a time 45.78. The ladies moved their way into the seventh spot all-time for the Titans.

Danette Haygood squeaked her way into the top 10 for Cal Stae Fullerton in the triple jump with a mark of 12.03m.

On the men's side, Brayden Bitter took first in the men's shot put for the second week in a row with a season-best throw of 17.97m. This was good enough to top his 17.94m throw at the Ben Brown Invite and move himself into the fourth position all-time at Cal Statre Fullerton.

Josh Hornsby was moving in the 110m hurdles with his 13.98 that earned him the top spot in the event and the fifth spot all-time for the Titans.

Kyler Headley (49.19m) and Jayden Epps (47.86m) moved into seventh and eighth place respectively in the discus.

Hawkin Miller found his way back into the the top 10 all-time at Fullerton with his 56.84m in the hammer throw and his 17.05m throw in the shot put.

Rashaan Dozier moved into seventh all-time in the long jump for the Titans with a jump of 7.34 and Andrew Corhwaite moved into the eighth spot right behind Dozier with a 7.33m mark.

The Titans are back on the road next Friday, Mar.21 and Saturday, Mar.22 for the UCLA Legends Meet in Westwood.
