LOS ANGELES — Talman Young took second place in the men's 3000m steeplechase to highlight a strong Titan showing Friday at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival. 

Young raced to a time of 9:13.54 in the event, earning a second-place podium finish. In the women's 1500m, Mia Bergman notched a top-10 finish, placing seventh with a time of 4:28.15. Laura Velasco (23rd, 4:38.98), Eva Rethmeier (24th, 4:39.89) and Dana McGrath (25th, 4:40.16) finished one after another in the event. 

The men's 1500m featured Jeremiah Castellano taking 17th place with a time of 3:54.40. Nathaniel Avila raced to a 3:59.14 to place 29th, while Nathan England took 34th place with a time of 4:01.82. 

The Titans also opened competition at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, with Joshua Tan finishing fourth in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 54.52m. Hawkin Miller took sixth place with a mark of 50.97m. Nicholas Hvidsten finished fourth in the men's javelin with a 49.80m, while Andi Woods finished fifth in the women's javelin with a 33.01m and Cathrine Dahlberg took sixth with a mark of 31.44m. 

The Titans are back in action at UCLA tomorrow, Saturday, March 25th, for day two of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
