Titans Fall in Four Sets at CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Despite leading 1-0 in the match, Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in four sets (25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 18-25) at CSU Bakersfield Friday night. The result moves the Titans to 1-25 on the season and 0-17 in Big West play.Ā 

Aubrey Beaver paced Fullerton with 14 kills on a .233 clip and three digs, while Ameena Campbell added 13 digs and six kills. Lyla Traylor also had 13 digs to go with four kills and three blocks.Ā 

After falling behind 18-13 in the first set, Fullerton scored seven unanswered to take a 20-18 lead, with kills by Williams, Tillman and Campbell fueling the run. Williams and Beaver tallied kills down the stretch before Campbell sealed the 25-21 set win with a kill of her own.Ā 

The Titans came out strong in set two, with kills from Traylor and Campbell giving Fullerton a 13-6 advantage. The Roadrunners, though, came back to tie the game at 17. A Beaver kill later put the Titans up 19-17 but Bakersfield scored eight of the final nine points to take the second set, 25-20.Ā 

The Roadrunners jumped to a 14-3 advantage early in set four. Campbell and Beaver notched kills later in the set, but Bakersfield went on to take the game 25-13 to take a 2-1 match lead.Ā 

Teams traded points early in the fourth set, with a block by Martinez and Campbell tying the game at 11. But the Roadrunners went on to take a 20-14 advantage. Martinez and Traylor notched another block and Beaver added a kill but Bakersfield took the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.Ā 

Fullerton remains on the road to take on CSUN tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18, at 4:00 p.m. PT in its final match of the 2023 season.Ā
