Titans Fall to CSUN in Straight Sets in Final Road Match

Fina Tuinauvai and Ketesia Hall combine for 14 kills to pace Fullerton's attack efforts

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball dropped its final road match of the season to CSUN in straight sets (22-25, 18-25, 15-25) as early momentum faded on Saturday at Premier America Credit Union Arena. The Titans moved to 8-20 overall and 3-13 in Big West play.

The Titans opened Saturday's match with a 4-0 run behind Sarah Schubert's serving and a Fina Tuinauvai kill. Tuinauvai continued to be a key piece in Fullerton's efforts, hitting .600 with four kills on five attempts in the opening frame.

Hannah Hass helped Fullerton to a 10-6 lead before teaming with Tuinauvai at the net for a 13-10 advantage. Zariah Crosby and Sarah Schubert denied an attack, followed by a Ketesia Hall kill, for an 18-15 lead. A successful CSUN challenge shifted the momentum and pulled the set even at 19 as the two teams traded points through three additional ties. CSUN came back and took the first set from the Titans, 25-22. As a team, Fullerton hit .226 to CSUN's .300 with 10 kills and three blocks in the set.

The Titans stayed efficient at the net in the second set as Hass and Tuinauvai evened it at 1-1. The set featured nine ties through 12-12, with kills from Hall, Crosby, Hass and Carissa Wiles. Crosby's second kill gave the Titans a 15-13 lead, but CSUN answered with a 5-0 run for an 18-15 advantage. The Matadors closed on a 12-3 run, taking a 2-0 match lead with a 25-18 victory in set two.

CSUN maintained control of the match in the third set, jumping to an early 5-1 lead before extending it to 9-4. The Titans answered with kills from Hass, Wiles and Hall, but another lengthy run (6-0) by the Matadors brought Fullerton's deficit to 15-7. The Titans fought to bounce back, but could not stop CSUN's service and blocking performance. A 25-15 win by the Matadors secured the straight-set sweep over the Titans.
