MBB Secures Overtime Win Over LBSU

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball secured its first Big West Conference win of the season on Saturday night in overtime by a score of 75-72 against Long Beach State. Junior guard Tray Maddox Jr. led the team in scoring with 22 points while sophomore Vincent Lee recorded a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds.

The Titans (2-3, 1-3 Big West) trailed 33-21 at halftime but stormed back in the second half and took an 11-point lead at the 11:23 mark. That would be the largest lead of the game as LBSU trimmed the lead and it was neck-and-neck down the stretch once again. The Titans missed two free-throws with 29 seconds left in regulation as well as a putback attempt but they got a stop to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period, the Titans shot just 2-6 from the field and 6-11 at the charity stripe, but they got the necessary stops to secure the win. Senior forward Josh Hall's made free throw with seven seconds left gave Fullerton a 73-69 win. LBSU made a three with 1.0 second left and immediately fouled Lee. He sank both free throws to give Fullerton a 75-72 advantage.

The Titans shot 29-70 (41.4%) from the floor, 7-24 (29.2%) from distance and just 10-22 (45.5%) at the line. Fullerton once again won the turnover battle, forcing 22 which turned into 24 points while only committing 14 that led to 12 LBSU points. Defensively, the Titans did a much better job on LBSU guard Isaiah Washington, holding him to 16 points (7-19 FGA) and nine assists while forcing seven turnovers.

Maddox did more than just score on Saturday as he had six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Lee's 16 rebounds mark a career high while he was just short of his career-high 18 points. Hall stuffed the box score once again, and once again just missed a double-double, with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Landis Spivey made just one basket, a three-point field goal, to go with one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block. But he had a team-high +/- of +13 in  19 minutes of action.
