FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Jim Donovan, announced that Titans Men's Basketball Head Coach, Dedrique Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.
"We are pleased to announce a two-year contract extension for head coach Dedrique Taylor. We were very happy with the team's No. 3 seed in The Big West Tournament, and we are proud of our results in conference (12-8) and overall winning record (18-16)," Donovan said. "Dedrique's leadership was instrumental in that success as was shown by being named Big West Coach of the Year. We appreciate the collaborative process in working with Dedrique to reach this agreement and are excited to continue building on the program's success at Cal State Fullerton."
Coach Taylor was named the 2026 Big West Coach of the Year after leading Cal State Fullerton to an 18-16 turnaround season. Coach Taylor and the Titans were picked to finish last in the 2025-26 Big West Coaches Preseason Poll. However, Taylor went on to lead the Titans to an impressive 12-8 conference record, claiming the No. 3 seed going into the Big West Conference Tournament.
"I'd like to thank President Ronald Rochon and Jim Donovan for their belief in our vision and for their leadership as we navigate the next few years," Taylor said. We're excited to continue building on what we have started here at Cal State Fullerton. Continuing to find high character young men and being a part of their growth and development is paramount to our success."
In the Big West Tournament, the Titans took down the No. 6 UC Davis Aggies in the quarterfinals by the score of 82-70. CSF advanced to face No. 2 Hawai'i in the semifinals where they fell 63-78 to the Rainbow Warriors who went on to win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Taylor became Titans Men's Basketball All-Time Winningest Head Coach in 2024 and has continued to add to the win column. Taylor has coached the Titans to a total of 179 wins in 13 seasons at Cal State Fullerton. He has led the Titans to the NCAA Tournament on two separate occasions (2018 and 2022), the most by any head coach at Fullerton.
During Taylor's time at the helm, seven Titans earned major Big West honors. Michael Williams (2013-14), Brandon Kamga (2019-20) and E.J. Anosike (2021-22) were named Big West Newcomer of the Year. Jalen Harris was named the Big West Sixth Man of the Year (2021-22) and Tory San Antonio earned the Big West Defensive Player of the Year award (2022-23). Coach Taylor also led Big West Freshman of the Year winners, Khalil Ahmad (2015-16) and Jackson Rowe (2016-17), who are both playing professionally now.
Five Titans have been named First Team All-Big West, while eight earned second team and another eight nabbed honorable mention conference honors. A total of 20 Titans have also been named Big West Player of the Week under Coach Taylor. Kyle Allman Jr. represented Taylor and the Titans in back-to-back seasons (2017-18, 2018-19) as NABC All-District Second Team.
"The aforementioned players and many others, as a part of Coach Taylor's leadership, have the Titans positioned to build upon last season's success. We look forward to seeing everyone in Titan Gymnasium this upcoming season!" added the Titans Assistant Coach, Ryan Hamm.
