NEW ORLEANS – Cal State Fullerton was shorthanded and it showed, as the Titans fell 9-3 to Tulane in the series finale, Sunday afternoon at Greer Field.

Jacob Pavletich led the away offensively for the Titans, going 2-of-4 from the dish, while normal closer Brett Conine made his first start in right field and notched his first collegiate hit.

Jairus Richards picked up his first hit of the season with a double, while Ruben Cardenas went 1-for-4 from the plate with a run scored and a single. Daniel Cope went 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI. The blast was his second of the series and the third of his career. Jace Chamberlin went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Zach Weller also chipped in with a hit and run scored.

Blake Workman made the start on the mound and was the tough luck loser, as he pitched well in the loss. He totaled five strikeouts and fanned three of the first five batters he faced.

For the third time this series, the Titans were the ones to strike first, as Cope launched a solo home run to left center on the first pitch he saw to put Fullerton up 1-0 in the fourth

However that lead wouldn't last long, as Tulane struck for six of its own in the bottom of the fourth. The Green Wave at one point strung together five consecutive hits in the inning.

Tulane extended its lead to 7-1 in the sixth, after Sal Gozzo hit a solo dinger down the left field line.

The Green Wave got two more in the seventh to extend things to 9-1.

The Titans showed fight in the eighth , striking for two runs, but it was too little too late.

Tommy Wilson made his debut in left field late in the game, while Conine played first base and Andrew Quezada entered to play second base. Colton Eastman was also used as a pinch runner.

Titans get back to work this weekend, as they'll head to Corvallis, Oregon to take on No. 2 Oregon State.
