FULLERTON, Calif. – Head Coach Jason Dietrich and Cal State Fullerton Athletics have agreed on a one-year contract extension through the 2027 season, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Donovan announced Wednesday. 

"Coach Dietrich has done a commendable job with academics, team culture and other aspects of the program and we expect to see continued growth and competitive success on the field," Donovan said. "We believe this one-year extension is the right decision for the University, Titans Athletics and Titans Baseball."

Dietrich led Cal State Fullerton baseball to the No. 5 seed in The Big West Championship this season where they defeated No. 4 seed Hawaii in the play-in game. 

"We are excited to continue building toward restoring the proud tradition of Cal State Fullerton baseball," Dietrich said. "Our players and staff are committed to competing at a high level and moving this program forward in the right direction. Go Titans!"

Under Dietrich's tutelage, starting pitcher Mikiah Negrete had a career season in 2026. The Titans Friday night ace was named First Team All-Big West after leading the team with a 9-4 record and 2.70 ERA. The senior walked just 17 batters while striking out 94 in 100 innings pitched. Additionally, Paul Contreras was named Big West Field Player of the Year, making him the first Titan to earn the award since Dalton Blaser in 2016. 

In his five years with the Titans, Dietrich has had 29 student-athletes earn all-conference honors which include eight First Team All-Big West selections and three player of the year honors. Following the 2026 season, six Titans earned all-conference honors with Contreras, Negrete and Nick Miller named to the All-Big West First Team. 

During Dietrich's tenure, seven players have been selected in the MLB Draft, while three others signed free agent contracts with MLB organizations.

In his second season, Dietrich led the Titans to an NCAA Tournament appearance after finishing the year with a 31-22 record along with a 20-10 record in Big West play. Fullerton's 20 conference wins that year were the most since 2013.
