FULLERTON, Calif. – As the Fullerton Invite came to a close, the Titans managed to push past San Jose State to clinch a 4-1 victory. Fullerton moved to 5-1 (1-0), San Jose fell to 4-1.
Cal State Fullerton started with a successful round of doubles as the Titans beat out the Spartans 2-0. The tandem of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin remained undefeated two weekends in a row. Nuno and Portalatin took down Gauvain/ Kobayashi 6-2. The duo is now 14-2 with a four-game win streak.
Masako Makiba and Genevieve Zeidan continued a streak of their own by notching a win over Culibrk/Malsert 6-4. The tandem is now 5-2 and on a three-match win streak. As the point was secured, Danielle Pham and Jadie Acidera's match against Wagner/ Sendar went unfinished with a score of 4-4.
Singles play didn't start off on the best foot as Nuno fell to Gauvain 0-6, 2-6. No. 97 Genevieve Zeidan got the momentum back on Fullerton's side as she dominated Culibrk 6-3, 6-4. Zeidan is now 15-2 overall in singles and 3-0 on the No.2 court. Zeidan also garners a four-match win streak.
Luxizi Meng set the Titans atop once again with her win over Malsert 6-3, 7-5. Meng is now 11-4 with a two-match win streak. Caisey Lee Emery clinched the victory with her win on the No. 5 spot over Wagner 7-5, 6-1. Emery is 9-4 and cruises to a six-match win streak. The freshmen rides a 5-0 record on the No. 5 spot.
With the Titans clinching the victory at the No. 5 court, the match was sealed, leaving the Titans victorious 4-1 over the Spartans. Both Portalatin's and Makiba's matches were stopped. On No.3 court Portalatin was 4-6, 6-2, 2-0, at No. 6 Makiba was 7-6(4), 1-6, 0-0.
The Titans look forward to conference play as they host CSUN on Friday, Feb. 16 at 1:30 p.m. PT.
