FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team came close to defeating UC Santa Barbara for the first time in 21 matches, but the Gauchos prevailed 4-3 in a marathon four hour match at the Titan Courts.
The match was originally scheduled for 11:00 a.m. but was pushed back to 1:30 due to inclement weather.The match didn't finish until it was past 5:30 as a three set battle on Court 5 went the distance.
After trailing 7-6 (8-6), 5-2 on Court 5,
Milena Gevorgyan won five straight games to take the second set 7-5 and push the match to a winner take all third set. Gevorgyan went down 3-0 in the third set before battling back to make it 4-3 game. However, My-Anh Holmes was able to win the next two games to earn the match point for the Gauchos. Â
The Titans lost the doubles point against the Gauchos and started the match down 1-0. Santa Barbara won on Court 1, 6-1.  It was closer on both Courts 2 and 3 and the Titans led early in the set but the Gauchos prevailed 6-4 on Court 3 to take the doubles point.
In singles play, the Titans started strong as
Emilie Lugon-Moulin won on Court 2 6-4, 6-1 and
Seha Yu playing No. 3 singles won 6-2, 6-4 to give the Titans an early 2-1 lead in the match. However, the Gauchos won the next two matches on Court 6 and Court 1 to take a 3-2 lead over the Titans.Â
Amelia Zylberman won on Court 4 in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to tie the match at 3-all setting up the final showdown on Court 5 between
Milena Gevorgyan and My-Anh Holmes.Â
After starting conference play 5-0, the Titans have lost their third conference match in a row as they played their toughest opponents at the end of the schedule. The Titans will finish up the regular season on Friday at home as they host the University of Hawai'i at 11:00 a.m. in a rescheduled match that was rained out in Hawaii. The Titans will host a Senior Ceremony before the match beginning around 10:30 a.m. as they honor their three seniors,

Madison Schwarz, and
Milena Gevorgyan.Â
