SAN DIEGO – Saturday proved to be a good day for the Titans as they showed their dominance in doubles consolation matches.
Doubles tandem Karla Portalatin/Sarah Nuno secured the first win of the day over CSUN's Bagumyan/Taslagyan 8-5 to kick off the morning. Jadie Acidera/Taylor Valenzuela also came in clutch with the win over UCI's Tillbury/Tsodlkova 8-3. Rounding out doubles play was the tandem of Makiba/Meng with the win over UCR's Khattab/Dulay 8-1.
In the early singles play, Karla Portalatin fell to UCLA's Gabby Andrews 6-0, 4-6, 10-6. Tiani Jadulang also fell in singles play to USD's Kukurad 8-2.
Later in the day, Sarah Nuno turned things around for Fullerton when she won her match against UCSB Amit Lev Ari 7-6(4), 2-6, 10-8. Luxizi Meng also kept the streak going for Fullerton with a win over CSUN Skyla Alcon 7-6(2)- 6-4.
Unfortunately, the Titans would fall soon after. Freshman Taylor Valenzuela lost to UCI's Claire Dean 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Fellow Freshman Jadie Acidera also fell to Hawai'i's Klara Pribylova 6-2. Masako Makiba also dropped against Yuli Chen from UCI 6-4, 6-3. Closing out the day was a loss given to Caisey Lee Emery due to a retirement against UCI's Jacqueline Tsodikova 4-3.
Cal State Fullerton looks to their next fall tournament Nov. 10 through Nov. 12 at the CSUN Matador Invitational in Northridge, Calif.
