RENO, Nev. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team rebounded from a loss yesterday with a 5-2 victory over Montana State at Caughlin Club in Reno on Saturday afternoon.
The Titans (11-2) won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead as freshman Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham partnered at No. 3 doubles to defeat the Bobcats' (4-9) Shelby Cerkovnik and Linda Vink, 6-3.
Fullerton clinched the doubles point for the eighth time this season as the No. 1 team of Alexis Valenzuela and Camille De Leon improved to 8-1 with a 6-3 win over Naomi Holopainen and Laura Middel.
The CSF advantage doubled to 2-0 when freshman Karla Portlatain was the first to finish her singles match, dispatching Jessica Brycki 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 in the order.
Fullerton's lead expanded to 3-0 as Pham handled Vink, 6-3, 6-1 at No.5 in the lineup.
In her first dual match of the season, freshman Caroleen Fararji clinched the singles point for the Titans, defeating Cerkovnik, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Nuno, playing at the top of the lineup for the first time in her career, scored the Titan's fifth point as she edged Holopainen in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.
Valenzuela was not feeling well and did not play in the singles order.
The Titans return to action at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday hosting Colorado State at Titan Tennis Courts, followed by a 1:30 p.m. match vs. Wyoming on Wednesday.
