FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men and women's track and field teams follow up a busy weekend on the track with one meet this weekend when it travels to La Jolla, Calif. to take part in the University of California, San Diego Triton Invitational starting on Friday morning and ending Saturday night.
After setting multiple season and personal-best finishes at the Cal State LA Twilight Open, Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational last weekend, the Titans will look to continue to build on the momentum and move up the standings in La Jolla.
Sprints | Mid & Long Distance Runs | Hurdles
After setting a personal-best time of 2:10.04 seconds in the 800m run at the Mt. SAC Relays in her last meet, Tejera Dial is back in action in the 800m while also competing in the longer 1,500m run this weekend. Abby Buckhoff and Michelle Botello will join Dial in both events at UCSD, looking to rise up the leaderboard in both races.
The 100m dash is the event to look out for on the men's side, with six Titans entering the race.
Joshua Gordon, Mason Rollins, Keawe Tolson,
Chaz Harmon,
Andrew Williams and
Mason Guzman-Sanchez will be competing against the competition, including each other, to cross the finish line in first place.
Jumps
Malik Johnson was the top finisher for the entire Titan track and field team at the Beach Invitational, coming away with a fifth place finish in the high jump event with a jump of 2.05 meters. Johnson look to make it two-straight top-five finishes in the event at the Triton Invite, but will get stiff competition from teammate Stephen Williams who has taken home the top spot in the high jump three times this season.
Ty'Jalayah Robertson, who tied a season-best jump of 1.65m at the Beach Invitational, will join
Taylor Frank in the high jump for the Titan women. Robertson will also take part in the triple jump event with freshman Laura Hamman.
Walker, who did not compete last weekend, will look for his second first-place finish in the javelin throw event after taking home the top spot at the UCR Spring Classic on Mar. 27 with after a personal-best throw of 60.88m.
For the Fullerton women, the full throwing squad will be on display in La Jolla, with
Amanda Mercado (hammer), Jessica Flores (hammer, discus, shot put), Alexandra Kemp (hammer),
Catherine Craig (hammer), Tayla Shultz (hammer, discus), Gwacham (shot put), Frank (shot put) and Garcia (javelin, shot put) all in competition.
Events are scheduled to begin at Triton Track and Field Stadium at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning with the hammer throw competition and will conclude on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. with the men's 5000m run.
