Throwers Complete Action at the Cal State LA Twilight Open

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Six hammer throwers from the Cal State Fullerton men and women's track and field team finished competition at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Open on Friday at Jesse Owens Track and North Field on the campus of Cal State L.A.

Trevor Gorwin set a new personal-best in the hammer throw when his second attempt of the day flew 52.64 meters.  The Yucca Valley, Calif. native posted 14th place finish thanks to the throw that cleared his previous-best distance by nearly four inches.   Steven Parsons and Emmanuel Martinez were not able to post a result after fouling on each of their attempts.

Three members of the Titan women's track and field squad also competed in the hammer throw competition on Friday in Los Angeles, with Jessica Flores tying Gorwin for the the highest finish by a Titan student-athlete.  Flores, who set the Fullerton school record in the hammer earlier in the season, finished with a distance of 49.61m to earn her a 14th place finish overall.  Amanda Mercado (49.43m) and Alexandra Kemp (47.99m) also participated in the event, finishing 16th and 19th, respectively.

Men and women from the Fullerton track and field squad will be in action on Friday and Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. on Saturday.Front Row Banner
