Tigers Roar to Snap Titans' Win Streak

March 26, 2011

FULLERTON, CA - Visiting Pacific swept all nine matches on the day en route to a 7-0 shutout of Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference women's tennis match at the Titan Courts.

The loss snapped the Titans' two-match winning streak as they fell to 5-15 overall and 0-7 in league play. The Tigers improved to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Big West play.

Pacific jumped out to the early lead with a sweep of the doubles matches posting big wins at the No. 1 (8-2) and No. 3 spots (8-0) while the Fullerton duo of Megan Sandford and Morgan McIntosh came the closest to a win, falling to Olga Gumenyuk and Susan Te, 8-6.

In singles play, the Tigers won five of the six singles contests in straight sets while Fullerton sophomore Monica Rodriguez pushed Gumenyuk to a tiebreak after splitting the first two sets, 6-4, 4-6. Gumenyuk eventually prevailed in the marathon tiebreak, 14-12, to help complete the sweep.

The Titans, now 2-3 during their season-ending homestand, don't return to the court until April 13, taking on Idaho at 2 p.m.
