Titans Open Up Big West Play with Win over UC Riverside

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team opened up Big West play with a 2-0 win at home over UC Riverside.

The Titans improved to 4-2-3 overall for the season.

The Titans got on board early after scoring just past the fourth minute.  Kassandra Rios sent a long ball up the field that deflected off a UCR defender right to Mia LaRosa.  LaRosa played a through ball up to Camryn Cruz.  Cruz one timed her shot with a clinical finisher to the far post to give the Titans the lead.



The Titans and Highlanders traded a couple of shots before the Titans doubled their advantage in the 26th minute.  Sail Bozinovic sent a perfectly weighted long ball up the field to the right side of the box.  Cassie Villanueva maneuvered around her defender who was trying to hold her off for the ball to go over the endline but the ball stopped on the field and Villanueva took the ball and dribbled down the endline and shot it past the keeper to put the Titans up 2-0. 



Villanueva scored her 5th goal of the season on the play and has accumulated at least one point in every game except the game against No. 1 Stanford.

The Titans almost got a third goal in the first half after Sasha Amezcua had a shot saved and the ball was cleared by a defender before crossing the line.

In the second half, the Titans ran out a lineup starring multiple freshman for most of the half with Bella Kellerman, Ella Chun, Ionare Ve'e, Jaidyn Williams, Riley O'Brien, Mia Ojeda, and Caroline Hicks. 

The Titans outshot the Highlanders 14-to-7 for the game and had 12 corner kicks.

While Allison Craycroft was only credited with three saves for the game, she played a big role in the Titans shutout by coming off her line to snag all the long balls from the Highlanders.  Allison Craycroft and the defense earned third third clean sheet of the season.

The Titans head to CSUN on Saturday for their first Big West road fixture.  Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Matador Soccer Field.
