Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Titans Lose to No. 1 Stanford on the Road

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team fell to the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cagan Stadium.

The Titans fell to 1-2-2 overall for the season.

The Titans almost took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute after Cassie Villanueva had a shot bounce off the right post back into the middle of the goalline but it did not cross the line.

The Titans held strong through the first 23 minutes of the match before the Cardinal scored their first goal of the game.  The Cardinal scored following a corner kick attempt where Charlotte Kohler raced to get the ball after the initial ball made its way through the box. She found Milly Bray who one timed a shot past the Titans defense to give them the lead.

The Titans defense struggled to deal with the Stanford set pieces all afternoon as the second Stanford goal scored by Sadie Leah-Schuman was scored indirectly on a corner kick that took one bounce and found it's way into the net untouched.

The Titans trailed 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Cardinal scored three minutes into a second half off a corner kick after Charlotte Kohler played a low ball through the box that Bella Win touched it into the net.  The Titans pulled a majority of the starting lineup midway through the second half after being down 3-0.  The Cardinal added a fourth goal off another corner kick after a header from Ella Emri.

The Cardinal scored in the 82nd minute off a penalty kick to take a 5-0 lead.  The Titans had back-to-back good chances from Kayalily Penn and Mia LaRosa which forced saves from the Stanford keeper as they looked to break the Cardinal's scoreless streak to start the season.  Stanford got two goals in the final two minutes to cap off their 7-0 win over the Titans.

The Titans were outshot 32-to-11 for the match with a 15-to-4 shot on goal advantage.  The Titans conceded 13 corner kicks where the Cardinal capitalized with four goals coming off them.  Allison Craycroft made a carer high eight saves. The 32 shots allowed was the sixth most shots allowed by an opposing team in program history.  This was the most goals allowed by an opponent since the Titans inaugural season in 1993 where UCSB scored eight goals in a match.

The Titans will close out the rest of their non-conference slate at home and begin a 4-game homestand beginning on Thursday against UNLV.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
