Titans Stun No. 6 Oregon State Behind Negrete's Brilliant Performance

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cal State Fullerton upset No. 6 Oregon State Monday night in game one of the series by a final score of 2-1. With the win the Titans improve to 19-17 on the year.

Mikiah Negrete threw another gem for Fullerton. Pitching a complete game for the second time this season, this time giving up just one unearned run on three hits and striking out six batters. Negrete improves to 7-2 on the year while lowering his ERA to a 1.33.

The Titans did just enough offensively to make Negrete's impressive start count, scoring one run in the first inning and one in the third.

Cameron Kim recorded both RBI in the game, neither of which came on a hit. In the first inning it was a productive groundout to the right side of the infield that allowed Paul Contreras to score from third. Contreras hit a one-out double before advancing to third on a wild pitch.

In the third inning Kim beat out a double play to score Hunter Meyer from third, giving the Titans a 2-0 lead at the time. The inning started with back-to-back singles by Meyer and Nick Miller to set up the run.

The Titans handed Oregon State's pitcher, Dax Whitney, his first loss of the season. Whitney was 5-0 heading into Friday's game. Fullerton also snapped a five-game losing streak to Oregon State, getting its first win over the Beavers since 2018.

The Titans are the first Big West team to beat Oregon State this season with Cal Poly and UC Irvine both being swept earlier this year.

Fullerton looks to carry its momentum into game two Saturday and secure an upset series victory. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
