Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early First Half Explosion Leads Titans to Fourth Straight Win at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team continued their unbeaten start to the season after winning their fourth game in a row on Saturday night in a 3-0 win over LMU at Sullivan Field.

The Titans improved to 4-0-1 to start the season and have won four straight games. This is the third time in head coach Demian Brown's career where the team went unbeaten through their first five games.  In 2015, the Titans went 6-0-1 including winning their first six games while in 2017, the Titans went 3-0-2 in their first five games.  Through the first five games, this is the best defensive Titan unit in program history that has allowed just one goal.  The Titans are one of 13 teams across the country that have allowed one goal or less to start the season.  The Titans are one of thirty two teams across that country that hasn't lost a game this season yet.

"I really do feel that the players applied so many of our ideas and concepts from a week of training into tonight's match.  At this young part of the season, I'm excited for the improvement that we've made and look forward to seeing what we can do next," said head coach Demian Brown.

After coming into the game with just four goals scored for the season, the Titans nearly matched that after exploding for three goals in the first half.  The Titans also had their best shooting game so far this season with 25 shots and 12 on goal.

Camryn Cruz got the scoring started in the 17th minute of play for her first collegiate goal.  After Ashlyn Gwynn won the ball back on the Titans defensive side of the field, she sent the ball up to Isabella Cruz near the midfield line.  After holding off two defenders, Isabella Cruz sent the ball up to Camryn Cruz. Cruz chipped the keeper to the top left corner of the goal to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

The Titans kept their foot on the gas pedal and rattled off eight more shots before finding the back of the net again.  Kayalily Penn hit the post after volleying a shot and the ball rebounded back to Gracie Paton who was able to be the first person to the ball and shot it past the diving LMU keeper to make it 2-0.

The Titans continued their offensive onslaught and were rewarded again four minutes later.  Jenae Perez sent a ball down the right side of the box that Gracie Paton was able to cross back into the box.  A LMU defender could only clear it to the top corner of the box where Isabella Contreras collected it and dribbled past one defender and hit a laser to the top right corner for her first ever collegiate goal to make it 3-0.

In the second half, the Titans outshot the Lions 12-to-8 for the half. The Titans had the first four shots of the half with Sasha Amezcua having two shots on goal however they couldn't find a fourth goal.

LMU had a couple of their best chances to score in the second half but goalkeeper Isaac Ranson was able to come up big every time.

He made 5 saves for the match after facing 14 shots. Ranson and the defense collected their fourth clean sheet of the season. The RS-Senior goalkeeper continues to creep up the charts of the Titans goalkeeping stats with now 299 saves, 27 goalkeeper victories, and 22 shutouts.

After playing only one game over the last nine days, the Titans will be back in action next Thursday at home against New Mexico State University. That will be the beginning of a four-game homestand played over the next two weeks.
