RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team continued their historic start to the season after defeating UC Riverside 3-0 on the road for their first away Big West match of the season.
The Titans remain unbeaten to start the season after moving to 8-0-2 and also picked up three points to move into a three-way tie into first place in the Big West standings with four points.
Isaac Ranson made history after making fives saves in the match to move to 316 saves for his career. The RS-Senior goalkeeper broke a 19-year old record held by the former Titans Hall of Famer, Karen Bardsley who had 312 saves (2002-2006). The goalkeeper also picked up the 25th shutout of their career, one behind the all-time shutout leader, Karen Bardsley with 26 shutouts.
After a slow start to the game, the Titans and UC Riverside were tied 0-0 at the half. However, the Titans would explode for three goals in the second half.
The Titans took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. After a large scrum inside the UCR box following a
Sail Bozinovic shot and a save,
Camryn Cruz had a header cleared off the defensive line. The ball found it ways back to Bozinovic who headed it to Cruz who was able to get a foot on it and chip it into the back of the net.
The Titans doubled their advantage two minutes later following
Isabella Cruz's team leading 5th goal of the season.
Jenae Perez sent in a cross into the UCR box where
Isabella Cruz beat the UCR keeper to the ball and headed it into an open net to make it 2-0.
The Titans put the game away in the 65th minute. After
Talei Moodie dribbled past her defender down the left side of the box, she sent in a perfect cross to an open
Sail Bozinovic who headed it past the UCR keeper to make it 3-0.
The Titans had a couple more looks to make it a 4-0 game but they were able to see out the shutout. It was the eighth shutout for the Titans of the season.
The Titans will be idle on Sunday before returning to Titan Stadium next week for two games against the University of Hawai'i on Thursday and UC Davis on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM on Thursday against the Rainbow Wahine.
