Titans Win Sixth Straight Game After Defeating New Mexico

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team continued their unbeaten start to the season after posing a dominant 3-0 win over the University of New Mexico on Sunday at Titan Stadium.

The Titans moved to 6-0-1 to start the season, matching the 2015 team that also went 6-0-1 to start the season with six consecutive wins to open the season.

The Titan offense continued rolling with their third straight game with 3 goals and 20+ shots as the Titans had 24 shots for the game. The Titans have not scored three plus goals in three consecutive games since the 2017 season.  Talei Moodie scored her first of the season while Skye Johnson scored the first and second goals of her Titans career.

Talei Moodie set the tone early after scoring in the 9th minute. After taking the point down the right side of the box, she cut back on her left and hit a laser to the upper left 90 of the goal to make it a 1-0 game.

Both teams continued to trade shots in the first half when Skye Johnson doubled the lead in the 38th minute.  After a corner kick from Isabella Cruz that Skye Johnson got the initial header on.  Sasha Amezcua had a shot blocked before the defense could only clear it back to Skye Johnson who was on top of the box.  She one timed a volley over the keeper to make it a 2-0 game and open up her Titans goal scoring account in style.

The Titans took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Titans made it a 3-0 game in the 55th minute off another corner kick.  Kassandra Rios took the corner and Camryn Cruz had the initial header bounce off the crossbar.  Skye Johnson was in the perfect spot for the rebound to head the ball back into the net to make it a 3-0 game.

Even after the 3-0 lead, the Titans continued to press for another goal.  They outshot the Lobos 15-to-3 in the second half and 24-to-7 for the game.

The Titans defense posted their fifth shutout of the season.  For senior day, Hannah Griffin drew her second career start and made two saves after playing the first half.  Isaac Ranson played the second half and also made two saves.  Ranson is now at 303 career saves as he continues to climb his way up to the top of the leader board in program history.

The Titans will look to make it their best ever start in program history when they host San Jose State on Thursday for their final non-conference game.  Kick-off is set for 5:00 PM as the Titans are set to host a doubleheader with the men playing after them.
