PITTSBURGH, Pa. -– The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team picked up a huge 1-0 win over Pitt on the road on Thursday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.Â
Senior
Isabella Cruz scored her third straight game winning goal after scoring the only goal of the game in the 16th minute. While
Isaac Ranson and the Titans defense continued their strong start to the season after picking up their third clean sheet of the season. Â
"I'm extremely proud of the women today. Once again they demonstrated their maturity both in how we traveled and how we play against a top program in the strongest conference. This was truly a team win and I'm looking forward to getting the players home and rested for our next match," said head coach
Demian Brown.Â
This was just the second ever meeting between both sides after Pitt came away with a 2-0 win at Fullerton last season. This was the Titans second win ever against an ACC opponent and first win since a 1-0 win over Clemson on September 19th, 2003.
The start of the game was pretty even with both sides feeling each other out as the rain started before the Titans began to pick up some momentum. Â
Kyah Otholt won a loose ball in the midfield and was able to send a ball up to
Sail Bozinovic. Â Bozinovic touched the ball past two Pittsburgh defenders to
Isabella Cruz who was able to shoot it with enough pace past the Pittsburgh goalkeeper to put the Titans ahead 1-0.
Â
The Titans continued their momentum during that middle swing of the first half but during a Titans corner kick, the Panthers had numbers on a counter attack but a perfectly timed tackle from
Taya Townsell was able to  stop the Pitt attack.
Â
Kayalily Penn entered the game in the 32nd minute and made an immediate impact with a shot from the top of the box saved by the Pitt keeper. On the ensuing corner kick,
Camryn Cruz had a shot attempt blocked by a Panthers defender that looked like it might've been a handball but was waved off by the referee.
The Panthers had momentum towards the final minutes of the first half but on their best attempt,
Isaac Ranson made a fantastic kick save to keep Pitt off the board.
Â
To start the second half, Ashlynn Gwynn had the best chance early in the half after finding herself 1v1 with the keeper but her shot was saved.
The Panthers had six shots and three corners kicks during the second half, but the Titans defense was able to snuff out all their attacks to preserve the clean sheet.Â
For the game,
Isaac Ranson was credited with five saves.  He continues to shoot up the leader board in the Titans record book with 294 saves, 21 shutouts, and 26 goalkeeper wins.
After traveling to the East Coast for the second time this year, the Titans will take this weekend off and will not play their next game until next Saturday, September 6th at LMU.
