FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Men's Basketball Alum, Khalil Ahmad, led the Niagara River Lions to their second consecutive Canadian Elite Basketball League Championship and earned Finals MVP on Sunday.
Khalil Ahmad spent four seasons with the Titans (2015-2019) putting up impressive numbers during his time at Fullerton. The 6'4" Guard recorded over 1,500 points, 133 steals, 167 assists and 445 rebounds as a Titan. Ahmad was named two-time All-Big West Second Team and 2016 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year.
After his time at Cal State Fullerton, Ahmad went overseas to play professional basketball, competing in multiple different European leagues. He joined the Niagara River Lions and CEBL in 2022, played for another team in 2023 and rejoined Niagara in 2024. Averaging 20.3 points per game, Ahmad led the River Cats to their first ever CEBL Championship title in 2024.
This season, Ahmad recorded 435 points, averaging 19.8 per game, 116 rebounds, 83 assists, 29 steals and eight blocks. Ahmad and the River Lions went 16-10 in their second straight winning season.
On Sunday, the River Lions took down the Calgary Surge in the CEBL Championship by a score of 79-73. Ahmad's 16 points, 9 rebounds and two steals paved way to his first Finals MVP with the Niagara River Lions.
