Titans Fall in Regular Season Finale at Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team lost 18-9 against No. 17 UC Davis on Friday evening at the Schaal Aquatics Center.

The Titans kept it close in the first quarter before ultimately fading away against the Aggies.  

Mia Hatch led the Titans in points after scoring a goal and tallying two assists.  Destiny Hernandez and Gabrielle Zaretskiy both scored two goals a piece.  Taylor Mason, Jade Lonzo, Emme Doube-MacLeod, and Ileina Hatori all found the net at least once against the Aggies. Alexandra Ortiz got the start and played three of the quarters and made seven saves.  Sienna Bertsch played one quarter and made one save.

In the first quarter, the Titans kept it close against the Aggies.  Destiny Hernandez tied the game to make it a 1-1 game on a 5-meter penalty.  The Aggies went ahead 3-1 before Gabrielle Zaretskiy and Emme Doube-MacLeod scored to make it a 3-3 game.  The Aggies scored before the period ended to take a 4-3 lead.

The Aggies outscored the Titans 5-to-1 in the second period.  Mia Hatch scored the only goal for the Titans. The Aggies led 9-4 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Jade Lonzo was the only Titan to find the back of the net as the Aggies outscored the Titans 4-to-1 and led 13-5.

In the fourth quarter, the game opened up as there was 9 goals scored in the period.  The Titans were outscored 5-to-4 in the period but Taylor Mason, Ileina Hatori, Destiny Hernandez, and Gabrielle Zaretskiy all found the back of the net.

The Titans finished the regular season with a 11-20 overall record and a 0-7 record in Big West play. 

The Titans will be the No. 8 seed in the Big West Championship as they take on the No. 1 seed University of Hawaii.  The game is set for Friday at 10:00 AM at the Anteaters Aquatic Comples.
