Titans Sweep Day over Macalester and CUI

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team ended a six-game losing streak on Saturday after defeating Macalester and Concordia University Irvine in the Titan Mini Invitational at Fullerton College.  The Titans defeated Macalester 15-4 in the first game of the morning before coming back and defeating Concordia University Irvine 13-8 in the second game of the day.

The Titans had 8 unique goalscorers in the first game of the day against Macalester.  

Gabrielle Zaretskiy and Emme Doube-MacLeod led the Titans with hat tricks over the Scots.  Delaney LAtham, Jade Lonzo, and Isabella Schulze all had two goals for the game.  Neida Torres, Eden Tal, and Destiny Hernandez rounded out the scoring with a goal a piece.  Annabelle Sherman made six saves as she played the first half of the game.  Alexandra Ortiz made six saves during the third quarter and Sienna Bertsch made one save during the fourth quarter.

Emme Doube-MacLeod got the goal scoring started for the Titans against Macalester in the first quarter.  Destiny Hernandez, Delaney Latham, and Jade Lonzo found the back of the net as the Titans led 4-1 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Scots tightened things up early in the quarter as they cut the lead to 5-3 with 5:28 left.  However, the Titans would score the next four goals during the quarter as Neida Torres, Emme Doube-MacLeod completed her hat trick, Isabella Schulze, and Gabrielle Zaretskiy all dented the twine to give the Titans a 9-3 lead at halftime.
 

The Titans had a perfect third quarter as they outscored Macalester 4-0 for the quarter.  Delaney Latham, Eden Tal, Jade Lonzo, and Isabella Schulze all scored during the period.
 

During the fourth quarter, Gabrielle Zaretskiy completed her hat-trick as the Titans outscored the Scots 2-to-1 for the quarter.

During the second game of the day, the Titans were playing CUI for the second time this season after taking them on in their third game of the season at the Beach Invitational back in January.  

The Titans rode a big a first half to propel them to victory over the Golden Eagles.  The Titans led 7-2 after the first half as both sides scored six goals a piece during the second half.

Taylor Mason led the Titans with a hat trick with all goals scored in the second quarter.  Mia Solorzano, Jade Lonzo, and Lacey Hall all had two goals a piece in the game.  Madelyn Halva, Neida Torres, Isabella Schulze, and Elise Bliss all scored one goal against the Golden Eagles.  Annabelle Sherman made 9 saves for the game as she played 29 minutes in the cage.

Neida Torres got the scoring started for the Titans before Golden Eagles equalized on a 5-meter penalty.  Jade Lonzo restored the Titans lead as they took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter
 

The Titans outscored CUI 5-1 in the second quarter to build an insurmountable lead.  Taylor Mason scored the first three goals of the period to give the Titans a 5-1 lead.  
 

Lacey Hall and Mia Solorzano found the back of the net before the period ended to give the Titans a 7-2 lead at halftime.
 

The Golden Eagles outscored the Titans 3-2 in the third quarter as Jade Lonzo and Elise Bliss found the back of the net in the third quarter for the Titans.  CUI cut the lead to 9-5 after three quarters.

The Titans scored the first three goals against CUI in the fourth quarter to rebuild a 7 goal lead as Mia Solorzano, Lacey Hall, and Isabella Schulze dented the twine.  
 

CUI scored two goals to cut the lead back down to 12-7 before Madelyn Halva scored the final goal for the Titans to make it a 13-7 game.  The Golden Eagles got a late consolation goal to make it a 13-8 game

The Titans will resume conference play as they head to CSUN next weekend with the game scheduled to begin at 12 PM on Saturday.
