Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Titans Drop Game to No. 11 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team lost to No. 11 UC San Diego 14-8 at the Canyonview Aquatic Center on Friday night.

The Titans (9-14, 0-3 BWC) had seven different goal scorers in the game.  Taylor Mason led the offensive output with a two goals, Destiny Hernandez, Delaney Latham, Kendal Santos, Jade Lonzo, Emme Doube-MacLeod and Ileina Hatori all scored one goal a piece in the game.  The Titans welcomed back Annabelle Sherman to the cage and she made 8 saves for the Titans in three quarters. Sienna Bertsch played the final 8 minutes for the Titans. UCSD was a highly efficient 7-for-10 on powerplays while the Titans were 4-for-11. The Titans shot at a better clip than their previous games going 8-for-25 and shooting at a 32% rate. 

The Tritons jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Taylor Mason scored the first goal for the Titans with just nine seconds left in the quarter.



The Titans and Tritons traded goals early in the second quarter as Emme Doube-MacLeod made it a 4-2 game.



The Tritons then scored two more goals to take a 6-2 lead.  The Titans got a late penalty with 10 seconds left and Destiny Hernandez converted from the spot to make it a 6-3 game.  However, the Titans defense allowed a buzzer beater goal with one second left to instead make it a 7-3 game at halftime.

The Titans got outscored 4-2 in the third quarter as the Tritons jumped to a 7-goal lead at one point during the quarter.  Ileina Hatori converted on a powerplay to end the third quarter and make it an 11-5 game.



Both sides scored three goals a piece in the fourth quarter.  The Titans made a late run as Taylor Mason, Jade Lonzo, and Kendal Santos each scored to make it an 12-8 game.



The Tritons however got the final two goals to take the game 14-8 over the Titans.

The Titans will remain in San Diego as they head to the Aztec Invitational tomorrow to take on Bucknell and No. 17 Indiana.  Both matches will have live stats on the fosh and will be streamed for free on the San Diego Aztecs Water Polo youtube channel.
