SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - With the Big West season winding down and the Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team one spot out of qualifying for Henderson next month, the Titans women's basketball did themselves a big favor by grinding out a 67-64 win on the road at Cal Poly at the Mott Athletics Center on Thursday night.
The No. 9 Titans improved to 4-10 in conference play while the No. 8 Mustangs fell to 5-8 in conference play.Â
After seeing a 13-point lead to start the third quarter decrease to a 3-point lead by the end of the quarter, the Titans were able to still pull out the road win over the Mustangs.  After trading baskets early to start the fourth quarter, the Titans regained the lead with 7:42 left in the quarter and held on the rest of the way. The Mustangs had the ball for the final 12 seconds trailing by three, but the Titans defense were able to stop Cal Poly from finding the tying 3-pointer on four different attempts.
Aaliyah Stanton led the Titans with 20 points for the game, her third time eclipsing the 20 point mark this season. Â
Maddy Tauro had a career high 15 points off the bench and a team high 4 steals. Â
Eva Levingston also had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Annika Shah led the Mustangs with a team high 20 points. The Titans had one of their better shooting nights on the floor shooting 49% going 28-for-57 from the floor.  They forced 19 turnovers from Cal Poly which led to 20 points for the Titans.  The Titans bench had 20 points while the Mustangs had just 3 points from their second unit. Â
The Titans struggled to start the game as Cal Poly got off to a hot start.  The Mustangs led 15-6 with 4:35 before the Titans regained their footing in the game. Â
The Titans outscored the Mustangs 12-to-4 over the final four minutes of the quarter. Â

The Titans played their best basketball of the day in the second quarter as they outscored the Mustangs 19-to-7.  The Mustangs scored the first five points of the second quarter to take a 24-18 lead.  The Titans then went on a 19-2 run over the final 8 minutes of the quarter.
The Titans got back-to-back fast breaks to tie the game at 24-24.

Jana Falsdottir hit a 3-pointer to give the Titans the lead at 27-26

Maddy Tauro forced a steal and completed a 3-point play on a fast break to give the Titans an 11-point lead heading into halftime. The Titans led 37-26 at halftime.Â

However, the Titans big lead heading into the second half was wiped away quickly as the Mustangs outscored the Titans 23-to-15 for the quarter. Â The Mustangs went on a 9-2 run early in the third to cut the lead to 39-35. The Titans defense was able to prevent the momentum from swinging completely to the Mustangs as they clung to a small lead over Cal Poly.Â

After Cal Poly made it a 1-point game at 50-49 with 30 seconds left,
Eva Levingston knocked down a turnaround jumper to end the third quarter with the Titans on top 52-49.

The Titans and Mustangs traded baskets to start the fourth quarter as it was 55-55 with 8:13 left. Â
Maddy Tauro made a basket with 7:42 left to give the Titans the 57-55 lead which they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way. Tauro scored six straight points to give the Titans a 61-55 lead.

The Titans extended their lead to five points at 63-58 with 1:57 left in the game. Â The Mustangs got it to within three points twice as
Aaliyah Stanton took over the scoring for the Titans down the stretch and kept extending the lead back to two possessions. Â
Eva Levingston made a big layup for the Titans to make it a 5-point lead at 67-62 with 21 seconds left.

After Sierra Lichtie made two free throws to make it a 67-64 game with 18 seconds left. Â Stanton lost the ball for the Titans coming out of a timeout and Cal Poly had the ball for the final possession of the game. Â Their first 3 point attempt coming out of a timeout was blocked by
Aixchel Hernandez. Â The Titans defense then prevented the Mustangs from getting a clean attempt over the final 9 seconds to once again give the Titans a big win on the road.
The Titans return home for their next two games. Â They will host Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, tip-off is set for 2:00 PM at Titan Gym.
