Titans Drop Home Game vs Hawaii

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team lost to the league leading University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine 54-47 on Saturday afternoon at Titan Gym.

The Titans matched Hawaii for almost the entire game, just getting outscored twice in two quarters by less than 4 points each.

The Titans spread the scoring for the game with Aixchel Hernandez leading the team with a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Aaliyah Stanton had 9 points, Eva Levingston had 8 points, and Jana Falsdottir had 8 points. The Titans outshot Hawaii 38.5% to 33.9% for the game.  They also outrebounded the Rainbow Wahine 36-to-31 for the game despite the Hawaii size advantage.  However, the Titans committed 18 turnovers and Hawaii had 10 steals which was the difference in the game.  The Rainbow Wahine had 16 points on fast breaks while the Titans had just two.

Hawaii led 14-to-10 after the first quarter.  It was originally 14-12 but the refs waived off a Titans basket by Demonnie Lagway after they judged her shot came after a shot clock violation.

Both sides scored 10 points a piece in the second quarter.  The Titans never let Hawaii build more than 4-point lead in the quarter.

At halftime, the Rainbow Wahine led the Titans 24-to-20.

In the third quarter, things were going Hawaii's way to start the period as they opened up an 11-point lead.  However, the Titans fought their way back into the game. Jana Falsdottir made a layup and Demonnie Lagway hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead back to six points.

Emily Strachan also completed a three point play to keep the Titans within range of Hawaii.

The Titans pulled to within 4 points (40-to-36) at the end of the quarter after Hawaii led by as many as 11 midway through the quarter.

The Titans pulled to within 2 points (42-40) with 6:10 left in the game in the fourth quarter and had momentum going their way.  However, the Rainbow Wahine stretched the lead back to 8 points after a couple missed layups from the Titans.

Aaliyah Stanton hit a 3-pointer with 3:35 left to keep it a 5-point game at 48-43. Stanton also made a layup with 1:14 left to make it a 3-point game at 48-45.

However, the Titans couldn't make their baskets down the final stretch and turned the ball a couple times while having to foul Hawaii and send them to the line.

The Titans will look to keep up their strong form on Thursday as they remain at home to host CSUN.  The Titans will be looking for revenge after falling 79-76 against the Matadors on the road.
