Titans Continue Unbeaten Start with Win over Aggies

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team remained undefeated to start the season after beating UC Davis 2-0 at home on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.

The Titans moved to 10-0-2 to start the season and 3-0-1 in Big West play.  The Titans moved into first place with 10 points through four games.  The Titans are one five teams across the nation that are unbeaten alongside No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 6 Florida State, and No. 9 Memphis.  The Titans also are among ten teams across the nation that have 10 wins so far this season.

The Titans defense picked up their 9th shutout of the season and Isaac Ranson picked up his eighth clean sheet of the season.  The Titans are among six teams that have 9 or more shutouts this season.  With only four goals allowed this season, only two teams have allowed less (Virginia and Florida State).  The Titans defense allowed seven shots for the game with zero on goal.  Isaac Ranson moved into a tie with Karen Bardsley for shutout number 26. The next shutout that Isaac gets, will make Ranson have the most shutouts in program history.

Camryn Cruz provided the offense for the Titans today as she scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season.  In each game that Camryn Cruz has scored, she has ended up scoring the game-winner and is now tied with Isabella Cruz in goals scored (five) and game winning goals (four).

The Titans and Aggies played to a scoreless first half.  In the 28th minute, Isabella Cruz set up Kayalily Penn perfectly on a through ball to the box but Penn skied her shot over the net.

The Aggies came out aggressive to start the second half before the Titans turned the tide.  Isabella Cruz was brought down inside the box in the 55th minute.  Camryn Cruz stepped up to take the penalty kick for the Titans to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Titans became the aggressors after the goal and had a surge of activity.  However, the Aggies had a golden chance to tie the game in the 79th minute but Ava Coverdale sent her shot wide of goal.  The Titans doubled their lead in the 82nd minute.  Jenae Perez sent a corner kick to the far post where Camryn Cruz headed it into the net for her second goal of the game to make it a 2-0 game.

The Titans were able to see out the final eight minutes to preserve the clean sheet and pick up the victory.

After two games at home, the Titans head to UC Santa Barbara on Thursday for the beginning of a three game road trip.  The Gauchos, who were the eventual tournament champions last year, eliminated the Titans in the 1st Round of the Big West Championship.  The Gauchos are 9-2-3 for the season and hold a 2-0-2 record in conference play. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at Harder Stadium.
