Titans Lock Up Third Seed with Win Over Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team prevailed 2-0 over Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday evening at the CSUB Main Soccer Field.

With the win, the Titans secured the third seed in the 2025 Big West Championship.  With results going their way in the second half, the Titans were close to being named Co-Champions with Cal Poly who would've been the No. 1 seed over the Titans due to the head-to-head tiebreaker.  But a late goal from CSUN over Long Beach handed the Matadors the Big West regular season title with 21 points.  The Titans and Mustangs both finished with 20 points, but the Mustangs earned the No. 2 seed and first round bye because of the tiebreaker.  The Titans are locked into the third seed and will host No. 6 Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.

The Captain, Isabella Cruz led the Titans in her final regular season appearance with a brace.  She scored her sixth and seventh goal of the season and also picked up her fifth game winning goal of the season.  Cruz finished the regular season tied with No. 1 for goals in the conference with seven.  She finished the conference with 19 points, the top mark in the conference, and tied with Camryn Cruz with 5 game winning goals.   The Titans dominated offensively against the Roadrunners, outshooting them 20-to-8 and earning 9 corners to their 4.  The Titans also had 8 shots on goal to the Roadrunners 4 shots on goal.

At the half, it was scoreless between both sides with the Titans outshooting the Roadrunners 10-to-4.

The Titans finally took the lead in the 56th minute after Isabella Cruz was brought down in the box.  She stepped up and drilled the penalty kick to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

The Titans continued to press for a second goal as Sail Bozinovic had a close range effort saved in the 69th minute.  Finally in the 73rd minute, Cruz got the ball near the left endline and dribbled into the box and shot a low shot past the Roadrunners keeper to make it a 2-0 game.

The Titans defense was able to see out the final 20 minutes of the game to secure their 13th clean sheet of the season.

Isaac Ranson made four saves for the game as he picked up his 12th win of the season and 12th shutout of the season.  Ranson moved into sole possession of third place in the Big West Conference with 30 shutouts.  He is one behind Danielle deSeriere (UCI/2007-10) with 31 all-time. He also tied the second best Big West mark of 12 shutouts in a season, tying Kaitlyn Gustaves (LBSU/2011).

The Titans will take on the Roadrunners again on Sunday when they host them at Titan Stadium.  Kick-Off and Ticket information will be announced tomorrow.
