FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team punched their ticket to the 2025 Big West Championship with a 1-0 win over Long Beach State on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.
The Titans improved to 12-2-3 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play. The Titans completed an undefeated home stand by going 7-0-3 after the win over Long Beach State. The Titans have guaranteed their spot in the 6-Team Big West Championship after moving up to 17 points on the table. Cal Poly leads the table with 20 points, UC Santa Barbara and CSUN both have 18 points. The Titans are fourth with 17 points. Cal State Bakersfield is fifth with 16 points. UC Irvine is sixth with 15 points.
The Titans thought they had broken the draw in the 72nd minute after a beautifully worked goal from
Kassandra Rios to
Isabella Cruz to
Kayalily Penn. However, the play was called off for a narrow offsides.
The Titans finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the 82nd minute of the game. After a counter attack started by
Camryn Cruz.
Cayla Oliveira sent a through ball up to
Isabella Cruz. Cruz crossed the ball across the middle of the box where the Long Beach State defender kicked the ball into the corner of the goal to give the Titans the 1-0 lead.
For the game, the Titans were outshot 16-to-8. Long Beach had a dominant display against the Titans in the first half where they outshot the Titans 9-to-2. In the second half, it was much more even as the game spread out with both sides attacking each other for the crucial three points. The Beach outshot the Titans 7-to-6 in the second half.
Isaac Ranson had a fantastic game in goal for the Titans making seven saves for the game. Ranson picked up his 11th clean sheet of the season and the Titans defense picked up their 12th shutout. For his career, Ranson picked up his 29th career shutout to move into third place in the Big West all time and matched Jovani McCaskill (CSUN/2013-17) and Ashton McKeown (LBSU/2013-16).
The Titans will play for their playoff positioning on next Thursday's regular season finale at Cal State Bakersfield. The Titans can finish anywhere from Co-Champions (2nd Place) with Cal Poly to sixth place based on their result and other results that evening. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
