The Big West Release

IRVINE, Calif. - Freshman infielder Sarah Perez was named The Big West Freshman of the Week (April 8) following an impressive performance in the squad's fourth straight conference series win against Cal State Northridge, the conference announced Monday. 

Perez becomes the second Titan to bring home consecutive Freshman of the Week honors as freshman outfielder Kate Verhoef received the title following Fullerton's series sweep over UC Riverside (April 1). She became the fifth Titan to be voted by the conference for weekly performance awards nine weeks into the season. 

The freshman slashed .556/.556/.778 over the weekend in Northridge after going 5-for-9 at the plate with a two-run triple and a run. Perez did not strikeout once across the three games and extended her hit streak to five games. In the 12-inning series win on Sunday, Perez went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, earning her first multi-hit game of the season. 

Her three hits and two RBI set new season and career highs for the freshman while tying her highs for at-bats (4) and stolen bases (2). 

Perez made five putouts as shortstop and assisted with six other outs across the three games. She has made 26 total putouts and assisted with 62 this season for the Titans from the middle infield. She holds a .946 fielding percentage on the year.
