Titans Complete Sweep in 12-6 Victory at Cal State Bakersfield

Lulu Sanchez hits inside-the-park home run as Titans extend 10-run streak to five games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Cal State Fullerton softball team completed its series sweep of Cal State Bakersfield with a 12-6 victory Sunday at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. The Titans improved to 31-12 overall and 19-2 in Big West play and have scored at least 10 runs in five consecutive games.

Freshman Jenica Silvas entered the series finale slashing .800/.833/1.400 against the Roadrunners. She totaled four hits, one home run, four runs scored and four RBIs, while also stealing two bases and making a leaping catch in left field during Saturday's doubleheader.

Senior Alexia Lopez batted .714 in Saturday's two run-rule victories and finished a double shy of the cycle in the series opener. She entered Sunday with five hits, including a triple and a home run, and five RBIs.

The Titans scored four runs in the first inning, sending eight batters to the plate. Sarah Coccillos (2-for-3, 2B, HR, R, 4 RBI) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, while Maggie Paulovich and Ava Arce each doubled. Arce's two-run double increased her career RBI total to 117, leaving her eight shy of the program's top 10.

Cal State Bakersfield tied the game in the second inning with four runs despite not recording a hit, taking advantage of four walks and an error.

Coccillos gave the Titans a 5-4 lead in the third with a solo home run, her second of the weekend. Lulu Sanchez (1-for-2, HR, R, 2 RBI) hit a two-run inside-the-park home run to extend the lead to 7-4. She marked Fullerton's second inside-the-park home run this season, the first coming from Colby McClinton against Cal at the Judi Garman Classic on Feb. 28.

Coccillos added two more runs in the fourth with a double to right-center field. The Titans extended their lead to 11-4 in the fifth, capitalizing on a Roadrunner error and a groundout. The Roadrunners responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a double and a groundout to cut the deficit to 11-6. Lopez added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 12-6.

Leanna Garcia started in the circle for Fullerton and pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs on one hit with four walks. Eva Hurtado earned the win in relief, tossing six innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fullerton remains on the road Tuesday for a midweek game at Cal Baptist before returning home to host Long Beach State in its final home series of the season.
