Titans Secure Series Win at Bakersfield Behind Two Run-Rule Wins

Alexia Lopez, Sarah Coccillos, Jenica Silvas power Titans with home runs in doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 10-1 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings, to secure the series win in Saturday's doubleheader. The Titans improved to 30-12 overall and 18-2 in Big West play.

Cal State Fullerton 10, Cal State Bakersfield 1 (6 innings) 

Trisha McCleskey (14-8) made her 20th start of the year in the circle for the Titans. She struck out the side in the second inning before her offense opened the scoring with a three-run third inning. 

Sarah Perez (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB) drove in the first run on a single up the middle, while Alexia Lopez (3-for-4, 3B, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI) hit a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead. 
 

Lulu Sanchez (1-for-3, 2B, R) sparked a four-run fourth inning with a leadoff double down the right-field line. Kate Verhoef (1-for-2, R, RBI) singled up the middle, and Jenica Silvas (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, SB) laid down a successful bunt to the pitcher, each driving in a run and forcing the Roadrunners to make a call to their bullpen. 

A wild pitch by Cal State Bakersfield extended Fullerton's lead to 6-0, and a groundout to second base gave Perez an RBI and a 7-0 advantage. 

McCleskey, who cruised through 4.2 innings of work with five strikeouts, faced some adversity in the bottom of the fifth, allowing a run on two walks, two singles and a wild pitch. The Titans responded in the sixth with a two-run triple by Lopez, and an RBI single by Ava Arce. McCleskey secured the win in six innings, holding the Roadrunners to one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five. 

Cal State Fullerton 10, Cal State Bakersfield 0 (5 innings)

Lopez remained consistent in the second game, driving in Fullerton's first run with a single through the left side. Colby McClinton, who reached on a triple, scored on the play. 

The Titans jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second inning as Silvas hit a home run to left-center field, scoring Verhoef, who had reached on a single. 
 

Sarah Coccillos (2-for-3, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI) pushed the Titans to a 7-0 lead in the fifth with a three-run home run to deep center field. 
 

The Titans followed Coccillos with three additional runs on RBI singles by Verhoef and Silvas to extend the lead to 10-0. Eva Hurtado (10-4) recorded her 10th win and fourth shutout of the season, silencing Bakersfield's offense to two hits. 

The Titans return to Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday for the series finale, scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
