FULLERTON, Calif. – Titans Softball head coach Gina Oaks Garcia has signed a one-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Donovan announced Wednesday. 

"In her first two seasons at the helm, head coach Gina Oaks Garcia has positioned the Titans Softball program to continue to be nationally competitive," Donovan said. "Earning her first NCAA postseason appearance in 2026 triggered a clause in her contract to add a well-deserved one-year extension. We're excited for the future of Titans Softball!" 

The two-time Big West Coach of the Year has led the Titans to a 78-32 (.709) overall record and 46-8 (.852) in Big West play, including wins over four nationally ranked opponents. The Titans finished the 2026 season 41-15 overall and 24-3 in Big West play. Their 41 wins marked the program's best finish since 2003, when Michelle Gromacki led Oaks Garcia and the Titans to an identical 41-15 record. Fullerton's 24 wins in conference play were its most since Judi Garman coached the Titans to a 25-win conference season in 1993. 

Oaks Garcia also guided the Titans to an undefeated run at the 2026 Big West Softball Championship, hosted at Anderson Family Field, after leading the team to back-to-back regular-season titles. The top-seeded Titans defeated No. 4 seed UC Davis in a 4-0 shutout, No. 2 seed Hawai'i in a 6-4 walk-off thriller, and the defending Big West champion No. 3 UC Santa Barbara in a 1-0 shutout to send the program to its 33rd postseason appearance. 

"I want to thank our Athletic Director Jim Donovan for his continued belief in me, my incredible coaching staff for the countless hours they pour into our student-athletes, and most importantly, our players for their commitment, 'one mode' mentality, and belief in what we are building together," Oaks Garcia said. "I'm also incredibly thankful for our alumni, families, and fans who continue to show up and support our program." 

Last season, Fullerton's defense set a program record with a .976 fielding percentage, ranking 17th in the nation. The Titans slashed .337/.395/.493 overall with 499 hits, 76 doubles, six triples, 48 home runs, 290 RBI, 325 runs scored and 100 stolen bases. Nationally, the Titans ranked fourth in double plays (33), 17th in sacrifice bunts (40) and stolen bases, and 21st in batting average. 

As head coach, Oaks Garcia has coached Ava Arce (2025) and Sarah Perez (2026) to Big West Field Player of the Year and NFCA All-West Region awards, Sarah Coccillos to the 2026 Big West Defensive Player of the Year honor, Nataly Lozano to the 2025 Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year honor, and Eva Hurtado to the 2025 Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year award. Under her leadership, players have also earned 12 All-Big West First Team selections, three Second Team selections, five honorable mention honors and three Freshman Team honors.

"Our best is still ahead of us," Oaks Garcia said. "Our goal is to continue competing for championships, developing young women on and off the field, and making our Fullerton community proud. We're hungry, we're go-getters, and we're just getting started. Go Titans!"
